Tom Laughlin

Tom is the president and principal consultant of Caravela Inc, a consulting firm that provides executive coaching, leadership training courses and other leadership development programs to leaders and their organizations. He also teaches leadership and management courses at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis College of Art and Design and Minneapolis Rotary Leadership Academy.


Development Experience
Since establishing Caravela in 2002, Tom has worked with numerous executives and leadership teams. His clients include Medtronic, Emerson, Cargill, Thomson Reuters, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Carlson School of Management and numerous other organizations and businesses. He began his development career in the Human Resource Development department at General Mills in 1996.

Management Experience
Prior to establishing Caravela, Tom’s management career spanned two decades with positions in both Fortune 500 and startup companies. He held numerous positions at General Mills including Director of Betty Crocker Desserts, General Manager of the Caribbean/Central America and Marketing Director of Latin America. He has also held management positions in sales, production and general operations in a number of other companies.

Education and Training
Tom holds an MBA in Marketing and Strategy from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA and a Masters in International Leadership and Organizational Development with Post Graduate Studies in Psychology from St. Mary’s University. He is qualified in the Myers Briggs Type Inventory, FIRO-B, CPI, Extraordinary Leader 360, Lominger Leadership Architect, and the Intercultural Development Inventory.

Tom lived with his family in Mexico City and has worked throughout the world. He is a native of the United States and speaks fluent Spanish. He currently lives with his family in Plymouth, Minnesota.
